On June 23rd 2003, EXMAR NV was created, its shares were listed on the Euronext Brussels stock exchange and the company began trading as an independent company with Nicolas Saverys at the helm as Chief Executive Officer.

At the beginning of the 1990s, EXMAR became a subsidiary of the publicly-quoted Compagnie Maritime Belge, entered LNG and Offshore markets for the first time and grew its LPG midsize fleet to twenty three vessels, as well as expanding its participation in both semi-pressurised and VLGC markets with chartered tonnage and newbuilds.
