For over 20 years, EXMAR has been at the forefront of floating LNG regasification technology, delivering innovative solutions to meet global energy demands. With a track record of building, delivering, and operating 10 floating regasification units (FSRUs) worldwide, EXMAR has established itself as a leader in the industry.
Since 2005, EXMAR has gained significant expertise in the construction, development, ownership, and management of FSRUs. Our experience includes the development of over 10 newly built FSRUs, five FS(R)U conversions, and the successful commissioning of more than 15 FSRU terminals across the globe. Currently, EXMAR owns a third-generation FSRU barge and has accumulated over 60 years of combined FSRU ownership experience.
As the first operator of FSRUs, EXMAR has over 180 years of cumulative experience in the operation of these units, placing us in a unique position within the FSRU market. This deep expertise and operational know-how offer immense value to our clients in the development and execution of their LNG import projects.
One notable example is the EEMSHAVEN LNG project, where an FSRU was transported from Singapore to Eemshaven, Groningen, in the Netherlands in late 2022. To meet local environmental and operational requirements, significant modifications were made, including the integration of an onshore heating system to warm-up the LNG, and adjustments to the mooring systems. With the strict NOx emission regulations in place, the FSRU was connected to the Dutch electricity grid, making EEMSHAVEN LNG one of the world’s most environmentally friendly FSRU terminals.
Completed in just over six months, the terminal began operations on September 15, 2023, playing a crucial role in enhancing Europe’s energy security with a strategic capacity of eight billion cubic meters of natural gas.
EXMAR is currently advancing several other FSRU projects at various stages of development, from small-scale units to Q-max FSRUs. All our solutions are meticulously tailored to meet the specific needs of each client and project.
