The EUPEN marks a unique turning point in shipbuilding history.

When shipyard Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Japan) proposed a new vessel design, EXMAR responded with an in-depth review, providing 860 comments. Inspired and challenged, Mitsubishi studied the Belgian ship SOMBEKE closely and embraced its design. 

The result? EUPEN was delivered as an almost exact copy of SOMBEKE. Thanks to EXMAR’s standards and expertise, their technical requirements shaped all future Japanese LPG carriers, including the largest VLGCs. 

EUPEN represents a remarkable moment of international innovation and collaboration.
