EXMAR at Gastech 2024

EXMAR is reshaping floating solutions for the transport and transformation of energy. We have a fleet of forty LPG/ammonia carriers and also design and operate floating production and storage solutions.

We are actively engaged in the development of several innovative FLNG and FSRU projects, rethinking how floating energy solutions can be developed for the different needs of our customers.

Kristof Coppé, Head of Technical Shipping shared his insights on the discussions about ammonia’s potential as a sustainable marine fuel option.

At Gastech 2024, Coppé got the opportunity to discuss some of our team’s projects:

  • EXMAR’s ground-breaking development of the world’s first ammonia-fuelled midsize gas carriers;
  • Innovation of ammonia dual-fuel engine technology;
  • Unique safety measures we have designed to ensure secure and efficient use of ammonia at sea;
  • Environmental benefits of adopting ammonia as a marine fuel;
  • Regulatory advancements paving the way for this energy transition in the maritime sector.

The making of Congo LNG

Frederik Van Nuffel, CTO, also joined the event, sharing his excitement about the developments at EXMAR: “This year I’ll present how we have realized the Congo LNG project in the shortest possible time frame, making use of two existing assets out of the EXMAR portfolio: Tango FLNG and LNGC Excalibur.”

Out-of-the-box thinking at EXMAR Offshore Company led to a new split mooring system whereby both floaters could be positioned in the field using low-cost and readily available technology. When asked about what stood out to him whilst working on this project, Frederik answered: “Our expertise in EPC project management was a key success factor to guide the conversion of both units to a success, whereby engineering, procurement and construction was all done in parallel.”
