The EXMAR Group is currently looking for a Marine Superintendent to reinforce the EXMAR Shipmanagement Infrastructure team in Antwerp, HQ.
Your role in the team
The Marine Superintendent is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant day-to-day operations of assigned assets and assists in the development of new infrastructure projects within the discipline of Marine & Labor HSEQ.
This role assures that the requirements of the Safety Management System (SMS) as well as international, national and industry regulations are implemented by the shore team and on board the assets in order to achieve safe and pollution free operations, to support operational excellence and a positive commercial performance of the fleet.
The MSI reports to the Head of Fleet Management Infrastructure.
Your responsibilities and tasks include
- Provide Marine & Labor HSEQ expertise to infrastructure projects across all phases, including transition to operations;
- Ensure all activities comply with internal procedures, international regulations and industry standards, in accordance with the Safety Management System (SMS);
- Lead operational people management: set objectives, monitor performance on set HSEQ KPI’s and drive employee development;
- Provide functional HSEQ direction and instructions across the organization;
- Safeguard commercial viability by coordinating inspections, preparing assets, responding to findings and supporting screening and terminal acceptance;
- Support third party inspections through preparation and follow-up on deficiencies;
- Drive compliance and continuous improvement: manage audits and certifications, conduct internal navigational audits, close findings and propose fleet and corporate-level improvements;
- Strengthen HSEQ and emergency readiness: embed HSEQ in daily operations, support risk management and incident investigations, monitor energy efficiency and security matters, and participate in emergency response and duty management;
- Act as emergency duty manager and participate in the fleet’s emergency response team.
Your profile
- Master’s degree in Nautical Sciences, STCW Management level;
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a management position on board;
- Excellent knowledge cargo operations;
- Good knowledge of IMO regulations and industry standards (OCIMF/CDI);
- Proficiency in mooring operations, weather forecast and interpretation, technical specifications of assets’ equipment;
- Ability to intervene on board and in your team when the SMS requirements are not met and you make sure action is taken;
- Ability to prevent, discuss and correct observations made by third parties;
- Ability to provide advice to management on board as well as in the cluster to assure safe operations;
- You are flexible with regards to travelling;
- You are based in Belgium or hold a work permit that is valid in the EU;
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
